how it was back then ... In this
Series, there are small, instructive Bible stories for young and old.
FOR THE MAN WHO HAS EVERYTHING ALREADY
In the Bible we learn not only through God's word alone, but also by human role models that God especially loves.
One of these models is Saul, the first Israeli king. He was personally chosen by the Lord to rule God's chosen people. (In 1 Samuel chapter 10)
A young man named David, (who later even a more important king of Israel) is in love one day to Michal, the daughter of Saul.
we look at this, what the actions of that pious and honest biblical kings can teach us!
It used to be customary to make the father of his future bride a gift, the so-called "dowry". But Saul wants no money and no gold from David, no, no.
He wants foreskins.
cent piece ...
"25 Saul said, Thus saith unto David, The king desires no dowry, only a hundred foreskins of the Philistines"
(1 Samuel 18:25)
..?
David killed Philistines are one hundred and cuts off their foreskins. Then he thinks "What the hell, if I'm at it ..." and kills more than hundred Philistines, and also cut their Corpses from the foreskins ...
"27 as set out on David and his men went and smote the Philistines two hundred men and David brought their foreskins to the king in full speed, that he was the king's son-. Since Saul gave him Michal his daughter to wife. "
(1 Samuel 18:27)
him now When David brings the foreskins, Saul concludes from this that God is on David's side and declared him as his mortal enemy.
"28 And Saul saw and knew that the Lord was with David. And Michal, Saul's daughter had loved him.
29 As Saul was afraid more of David and was his enemy for life. "
(1 Samuel 18:28-29)
What we learn from this?
(No, that was not a rhetorical question, I have not the slightest idea ...)
Except, perhaps, that both Saul, David, and God are completely insane ...
... IS WELL IN THE FAMILY
also David's son Amnon was not easy to love. He would like nothing more than his sister deflower!
"2 And Amnon was the woe, as if to be sick to Thamar, his sister's sake. For she was a virgin, and it seemed to be hard to Amnon that he should do something about it."
(2 Samuel 13:2)
He asks his cousin for advice because of a "very wise man."
"3 Amnon but a friend who was Jehonadab Simeas a son, David's brother had, and the same Jonadab was a very wise man"
(2 Samuel 13:3)
Jonadab also prompt a plan to Amnon is a ruse by having sex with his virgin Sister can surreptitiously. The Bible calls so no one free "as much".
"5 Jonadab said to him. Lie down on your bed and ask you sick Then, when your father comes to visit you, say to him, but will let my sister Tamar, that she give me something to eat and do in front of me the food that I watch and eat from her hand. "
(2 Samuel 13:5)
said than done. . put
"6 So Amnon and pretended to be ill Now the king came to visit him, Amnon said to the king, Let there come my sister Tamar, before me that they make a cake or two and I eat from her hand.
7 And David sent to Tamar into the house and let her say, "Go into the house of your brother Amnon and make him a meal.
8 Tamar went to the house of her brother Amnon, but he was in bed. And she took a dough and kneaded it and prepared it in his eyes, and baked the cakes.
9 And she took a pan and poured it out before him, but he refused to eat. And Amnon said, "Let everyone go out from me. And everyone went out of him.
10 Amnon said to Tamar Since: Put the food in the chamber, that I may eat from your hand. As Tamar took the cakes she had made, and brought her to Amnon her brother in the chamber.
11 And when they brought it to him that he ate, he took them and said to her, "Come here, my sister, sleep with me! "
(2 Samuel 13:6-11)
So far everything is going splendidly But Tamar resists, this bitch
.!" 12 you spoke to him, "Not , my brother weakness, not me, For if one does not in Israel, do not do such a folly!
13 Where do I want with my shame? And you will be like the fools in Israel. But speak with the king. Will not withhold me from you "
(2 Samuel 13:12-13)
But if interested in what women tell it all day long ..
? "14 But he did not obey, and prevailed against them, weakening them and slept with her."
(2 Samuel 13:14)
NO CHILD OF SHYNESS
also David's son Solomon, the His throne successor, is not exactly shy in dealing with the ladies ...
"1 But King Solomon loved many foreign women: the daughter of Pharaoh, and Moabite, Ammonite, Edomite, Sidon, and Hittites,
2 of such peoples, which the Lord said had the children of Israel, Go not up to them and let them not come to you, they are certainly your hearts tend to their gods Solomon clung to these with love
3 And he had seven hundred wives.. on women and three hundred concubines; and his wives turned away his heart "
(1 Kings 11:1-3)
AMEN
Finally, there are a few good Bible verses for night prayer.
"3 It is not a widow in the church of the Lord come, even after the tenth member, but is not alway come into the congregation of the LORD."
(Deuteronomy 23:3)
"5 A woman shall not wear man clothes, and a man will not do to women dresses;. for whoever does these things is the Lord your God, an abomination "
(Deuteronomy 22:5)
" 11 When two men together quarrel and the one woman to run that she deliver her husband from the hand of him who strikes him, and holds out her hand and seizes him in his shame,
12 thou shalt cut off her hand, thine eye shall not spare them.
(Deuteronomy 25:11-12)
